The Student Leadership Council (SLC) is a nationally focused youth forum that works to further the mission of SADD. Through participation in the SLC, selected students grow and strengthen their leadership skills and gain significant travel, training, leadership and public speaking opportunities. Members of the SLC are dedicated to peer programming and youth health and safety. They have many accomplishments within their schools and communities to further SADD’s mission.
Student Leadership Members:
Complete individual projects that advance the strategic vision of the organization.
Speak publicly to the media, partners and at events and other functions on issues central to SADD’s mission.
Provide the national organization with youth insight and perspective on strategic planning, programming, the national conference and other aspects of SADD operations.
Serve as a role model for SADD students nationwide, setting a positive example of a responsible attitude, overall behavior and making choices appropriate to that of a student leader.
Roles and Responsibilities
Attend two SADD National Conferences and actively participate as required. Specific responsibilities are assigned to both the incoming and outgoing SLC and may include introducing speakers, performing small skits and/or role-plays, rallying conference participants and presenting workshops.
Assist the SADD National Conference Committee in planning and implementing the national conference at the expiration of their term.
Participate in two additional face-to-face meetings in the course of the year (October and February). The SADD National office will cover all meeting expenses. Students will be expected to miss up to three days of school for each meeting.
Participate in mandatory monthly group conference calls to discuss projects in progress, current events, SADD policies, and proposed campaigns and activities.
Participate in mandatory monthly one-on-one check in calls to discuss progress on individual projects
Raise funds on behalf of the SADD National Office. Each year, the SADD National office invests $55,000 to launch and support the Student Leadership Councils. With support from the SADD National staff, students will be expected to raise $1,000 per member.
Participate in quarterly webinar-based leadership trainings, hosted by SADD National staff.
Develop and disseminate a teen driver safety contest in conjunction with SADD’s partners at The National Road Safety Foundation. This annual contest will be developed primarily at the fall meeting in New York City. The program will be launched the following school year.
Within ability, represent SADD National at conferences, meetings and public events.
Speak with members of the press or public on questions related to SADD’s mission as requested and approved by SADD National.
